Well, this does give me a less-formal place to talk about this 'leak,' so I might as well take advantage of that:So, Verendus has a large following, and neoGAF largely treats him/her as a reliable source. To the point were my questioning of this got me personally insulted. But, let's take a short look at the two major times this source has been 'correct,' the FFVII re-port and FFversus XIII becoming FFXV.
First, FFversus:Dated Jan 29 2013, Verendus predicts FFversus is going to have a name change, which it did roughly 4 and 1/2 months later. S/he also predicted news coming within the year, both true. Also predicted was 'It will definitely release in 2014' and some kind of exclusivity in FFXV or FFXVI. Also, this 'leak' come after nearly 18 months of silence on the project from Square, and a gaffe about 'FFXV' in the Japanese press. So, Verendus was 50% on guesses, if we wish to be charitable.FFVII: This is one of the reasons many fans were so disappointed at PSextreme:. 'A FFVII remake is happening.
It's a huge project that will take a lot of effort.' Only to have FFVII be announced as a PC port for PS4, which clearly does not take a lot of effort, nor is it a huge project. Verendus then defended his/herself: However, this defense rings hollow to me. There is no indication that a full remake isn't happening, but it is unlikely to re-release a port, then turn round and remake fully -say- 5 years later for the same console.
This casts serious doubt on the source.Thirdly, many have told me that since the leak of 'Project Orbis' details a few years back, Sony's internal teams have tightened things up. If Verendus was a Sony employee, it is highly unlikely they are now. Or, Verendus could be an unofficial mouthpiece for SCEJA, rallying the core fanbase and press with rumors -regardless of their accuracy- to sell Sony consoles.
Controlled 'leaks' are one of the most common tactics in political circles and industry for press manipulation. Or, they could simply be out for attention. Or any one of hundreds of possibilities. Reporting on this without corroboration is a serious breach of ethics for these reasons and much more. Here are the relevant ethical standards that should be followed at all times, regardless of whether or not you call it a 'rumor.'
Cannot wait for Suikoden VI!!!! There's a New Game + mode too which is great for replay potential. A fan made game. In the world of Kanakan, the sell-sword Ryan Raven is down on his luck. After losing a ton of money gambling, he takes a job from the mercenary's guild to protect a young.
In short: Do everything to prevent the dissemination of false information, and have multiple sources when dealing in anonymity. There are ethical and legal definitions of what constitutes an 'anonymous' source, and Veredus does not even qualify as that.Investigating further back for nearly three years yields roughly a 25-35% accuracy rate for Verendus, again depending on your charitability. This is among posts of theirs that have not already been deleted by mods for inaccurate information.
Multiple people in the press and community who are neogaf users themselves have said to me that this person has been under suspension before for 'trolling.' Add to this the rather odd and inaccurate language used by this person, and I think we are all right to be highly suspect.Remember that the more information a person leaks, the greater their chances of being caught. Leaking in particular 10-12 things at once is nearly like putting a target on your own back for Sony internal affairs/security.None of this means that a new Suikoden isn't happening, of course. We are almost half-expecting a TGS 2015 or 16 announcement of a new game. This would be in keeping with Konami's established 'schedule' for Suikoden releases: '08 for Tierkreis, '12 for Woven Web, '16 or '17 for a new game. And it would most likely be a handheld spin-off, again. However, none of this should be attributed to this source. Moreover, we have not noticed any change in the behavior of core Japanese staff that usually work on these games.
Not to violate Junko-sensei's privacy too much, but she has been in and out of the hospital of late, and is now convalescing on vacation. Any prayers or thoughts you might want to send her way for a speedy recovery would be appreciated.
But, this means that it is unlikely any actual work is underway, even if a 'project' appears on paper. So, we are now far more concerned about that than any distant project on the horizon.I know this isn't what the community wants to hear. We all want a Suikoden VI. But, we all have far too much respect for everyone to ever needlessly work people up over false rumors, and these rumors can distract us from the concrete actions that we need to take to achieve our goals. Thanks for listening.
